"Mission-style" and "Spanish" round-topped tiles are
widely used as are flat styles that create German or French
looks. Tile is
available in a variety of colors, finishes and shapes, including barrel
/mission/, D-shaped, flat and ribbed. While clay is not cheap it's
considered a worthwhile investment. The benefits include: 1/ Durability, 2/Aesthetically pleasing 3/ Natural material which does not fade,

Concrete Tile -last 20+
years - their development is attributed to Adolph Kroher of
Bavaria who, in the 1840s, created his own concrete mix and produced unique
tile shapes. Most concrete tiles produced are said be imitations of either
clay tiles or slates. They have smooth or sand-faced appearance and are
available in a wide range of colors, profiles and textures. .....Apart
from their price, the benefits of concrete are: 1/ Strength,

Concrete tiles can, however, discolor over a period of time and my
surfer staining from the effects of natural lichen and mosses. The are
not, therefore, maintenance-free.
