Why a roof planting of grass is so advantageous

A flat roof with a bitumen road or foil is usually sealed. These types of sealing offer a dreary view........So why not plant a small garden on the roof? .....From several points of views, roof plantings of grass have many advantages.

Ecological Reason - When planting a roof garden, one is building up and therefore conserving space. Besides, valuable living space is lost daily to animals, plants and a rapidly growing population. A big part of this surface can be won back by a roof planting of grass - which can in return provide a natural rest space for the planters..... Our habitat is suffering greatly from pollution (especially the industrialized cities). The evaporation of water from the plants planted atop roofs raises the air humidity and therefore brings the smog (from dust) and pollution factors down greatly.

As time passes and people are more concerned with the globe warming problem, Green Roofs gain popularity. Roof plantings of grass work a temperature balance- they cool slower and heat up slower (and less). Plantings of grass store water. This can lead to a lower waste water fee.

Effects from the building design - Heat, traffic jams, hail, variations in temperature, precipitins and ultraviolet light attack naked roof surfaces. The shelf life of their roof is substantially thereby affected. A roof planting of grass protects your roof sealing against these factors. It represents the best protection of a building's sealing. Roof plantings of grass offer an additional thermal insulation - up to 10%. A roof planting of grass has an additional sound proofing effect.
